The Erasmus+ Program is the European Union's grant program in the fields of education, youth, and sports. It supports education abroad, training, internships, professional development, non-formal learning-based youth activities, and collaborations between institutions.

1981-1986: Pilot student exchange
17.06.1987: Erasmus program begins among 11 countries (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom)
1988: First exchange with Luxembourg
1992: First exchange with 6 EFTA countries (Austria, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland)
1994: First exchange with Liechtenstein
1994-1999: The Erasmus program continued to operate under the Soctrates program
1998: First exchange with 6 Central and Eastern European countries (Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia)

2002: 1 millionth Erasmus student
2002: Law No. 4763, which approved the Framework Agreement signed by the parties on February 26, 2002, which would enable Turkey to benefit from EU programs, was also discussed and approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly and entered into force upon publication in the Official Gazette dated June 28, 2002. The content of the agreement and the Council of Ministers' decision on which it was based were published in the Official Gazette dated September 1, 2002, following the completion of the signatures.
2002: In Turkey, the Department of European Union Education and Youth Programs was established within the State Planning Organization by the decision of the Council of Ministers in January 2002 to undertake the duties of the "National Agency".
2003: The European Union Education and Youth Programs Center (Turkish National Agency) was established by Law No. 4968 Amending Decree Law No. 540 on the Establishment and Duties of the State Planning Organization, published in the Official Gazette No. 25191 dated 6 August 2003. It is an organization with legal personality and administrative and financial autonomy. The Presidency became a related institution of the Ministry for European Union Affairs by Decree Law No. 634 in 2011.
2003: Pilot universities were determined in Turkey and the Erasmus program was implemented.
2004: First exchange with Turkey
2007-2013: Socrates and Leonardo da Vinci Programs continued as Lifelong Learning Program (LLP)
2009: First exchange with Croatia and the 2 millionth Erasmus student
2012/2013: Three millionth Erasmus
2014: Start of the new ERASMUS+ Programme and the first exchange with Macedonia
2014-2020: The first seven-year programme period of the Erasmus+ Programme
2018: In 2018, the Presidency became a related institution of the Presidency for the European Union, which is an affiliated institution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the Presidential Decree No. 4.
